We are North Carolina Mountain Mushroom Cooperative.
Each winter (Nov – Mar) we offer this free service to local residents. We will
cut and haul away your unwanted trees. If you want, you can keep the valuable
timber wood. Our only restriction is that we take the tops and limbs as these
are needed for our local farmers to use in their mushroom operation. Whether it
is one tree or a hundred, we will volunteer our services in exchange for the
tops and limbs. There is NO FEE at all. Trees must be living, stumps are not
removed but they are cut nearly flush with the ground and most of the debris is
removed
.
Our cooperative is based in MadisonCounty and represents
over 20 farmers. Our main mushroom crop, Shiitake, grows on hardwood logs, preferably
oak, but we will use Beech, Birch, Maple and various other deciduous trees.
